Do I need a referral to visit us at SoHi Podiatry?

No you don’t. We are primary health care providers, so anyone can come see us at SoHi, just like you do your GP. If you are covered by Work Cover, Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) or Enhanced Primary Care Plan (EPC) scheme, you will need to bring your referral with you.

Yes we do, please bring your GP referral on your first visit.

Yes we do but we require a referral from your GP and a letter from the Insurance Company approving your initial consultation and medical report, then we will take care of the rest!

If you have been classified by your GP as having a chronic condition then you may have been given an Enhanced Primary Care Plan (EPC). In this case you may be eligible for up to five (5) podiatry visits per calendar year (at your doctor’s discretion). Please bring this referral with you for your appointment. Our HICAPS facility allows us to process your Medicare refund on-the-spot for your bulk-billed consultation. Before your visit: Check that Medicare has your bank details. For on-the-spot Medicare claims, Medicare will these to process your payment. If Medicare does not have your bank details, please complete and send off this form. Check that your EPC is still valid. If your EPC has expired or the rebate has already been allocated to other services, the standard service fees will apply.

Yes. Rebates vary depending on cover, and podiatry usually falls under “extras”. Our friendly reception staff can provide the relevant codes so you can check what your gap will be with your health fund. Some common codes are listed below. Yes. Cash, most major credit, debit and EFTPOS cards (including Diner’s and Amex) are accepted.

We certainly do. The Cottage and SoHi Podiatry comply with and exceed current Australian Standards for sterilisation of non-surgical instruments. All our surgical equipment is packaged, sterilised, logged and tracked according to strict guidelines. Ours is a modern, purpose-built clinic with state-of-the-art equipment. Yes! At SoHi we’re not fussy about feet – we treat anything and everything related to the lower limb and foot including nails, corns, calluses as well as sprains and pains.

Yes. We have a wide driveway, a designated disabled car space plus flat, smooth, front access. All of our treatment rooms allow for easy access and maneuverability.

What can I expect on my first visit to SoHi Podiatry?

What can I expect on my first visit to SoHi Podiatry?

At SoHi, getting to know you is our first priority. On your first visit we gather as much information about you as we can so please arrive 15 minutes early to complete a new patient form. During your consultation the podiatrist will then ask about your medical history, what your concerns are and how these are affecting your life. Listening to you is a vital first step in giving you the best treatment possible.

The appointment structure will then depend on your particular concern. A typical first visit may include one or more of the following:

Assessment

We assess the circulation and sensation in your feet, any lumps and bumps relating to your foot anatomy and any pain that you may have.

Biomechanical assessment

We look at your biomechanics (how your body moves and what is affecting or contributing to this movement), muscle strength and flexibility, joint range of motion and function, as well as how your body is compensating.

Video gait analysis

With the assistance of a treadmill, we visually record your biomechanics and how all the areas of your body work together as you walk. We watch the video together, discuss the findings and answer any questions you may have.

Advice

We let you know how you can care for your feet to prevent ongoing problems and whether further treatment is recommended

Initial treatment

We do whatever we can to alleviate your discomfort by providing chair-side treatment of your primary concern e.g. deflective padding, taping, strapping.

Care plan

A plan may be designed specifically for you and is aimed at addressing your underlying condition in the long term. Sometimes treatment may involve podiatry alone or when necessary the introduction of physiotherapy and exercise physiology – aimed at providing a complete and multidisciplinary treatment plan which addresses all components of your condition.

Follow up plan

If suitable, we will recommend regular check-ups. This helps prevent re-occurrence and allows us to maintain your treatment so you can enjoy long-term health.

Please bring any relevant X-rays, scans and old orthotics. If coming for an initial treatment or biomechanics assessment please bring current footwear, sometimes loose-fitting clothing is also helpful.
